Happy birthday, Mr LethalFrag

Today, my best friend turns a year older.

He just happens to be my fiancé too.

And in celebration of this natal day of my awesome gamer, here are the top ten reasons why LethalFrag (AKA “Chef”) rocks:

1. He is the kind of guy who says “I’ll cook dinner” and makes an amazing meal that he plates like it’s served in a restaurant.

2. His smile lights up a whole room.

3. He takes more showers then anyone I know and thoroughly enjoys being clean.

4. He takes time with both of our kids to listen to them and never acts like he is in a hurry or wants to be somewhere else.

5. He is one of the more enthusiastic dads at Boy Wonder’s soccer games. He yells and claps and smiles really big. He says he’s not a “sports dad”, but he totally is.

6. He likes to taste my cooking and always has a piece of constructive advice to help me make my cooking better. Baking, however, he leaves to me :)

7. He likes to join in the momma/kiddo dance parties when he’s home. He prefers dubstep to pop, btw.

8. He makes Chuck’s bear dance and sing songs, which makes her giggle hysterically.

9. When I dance and sing (and i am not a great singer), he doesn’t roll his eyes and walk away.

10. Despite the fact that he is a number of years younger than me, he is sometimes the more mature one.

Happy birthday, hot stuff. Here’s to another year of awesome :)

Random Thought Tuesday

In no particular order, here are some things that have been occupying my mind the past few days:

1. My good friend (and momma hero) Autumn’s new blog launched today, and if you like me, you will adore her.

2. I am working on a mess of recipes right now to post on the blog! I think Chef and I might be cooking up a video series as well…

3. Chuck has learned a whole mess of new words in the past week, including “cupcake” and “roller derby”. Boy Wonder asked to make caramel apples with me (might have a blog post on that bad boy too). My mom ego is enormous right now.

4. I’m totally nerding out this week (in all my spare time between PTA meetings and playdates and cleaning and 11 loads of laundry…) over old episodes of Roswell. Like I mentioned on Twitter, it’s like My So-Called Life, but with aliens and more teen angst. Takes me back to the weirdness of the late 90s.

5. I have recently become reacquainted with my deep-seated love for Martha Stewart and am renewing my not-so-evil plan to somehow be on her show soon. So if you would like to conspire with me on my plan, let me know. I would love some co-conspirators.

20111004-151442.jpg6. I am obsessed with trying to find a way to hang a wreath on our front door. It’s 10 feet tall (I’m not joking) and those purple spots are actually panels that stick out about 2 inches. And that middle circle is weird sized, so a wreath won’t go around it.

And here’s where the giveaway comes in: help me figure out how in the world to hang a wreath on this door, and you could win your own wreath, for the event or season of your choice, handmade by me! (and I’m wicked sweet at this and have a ton of great ideas. And I’m very excited!)

Enter here, ends on the 12th, and good luck! (and don’t forget to enter the Boba giveaway too!)

Me and my Boba (GIVEAWAY!)

Farmers' Market! (excuse the lack of makeup on my part.)

I am a huge advocate of babywearing. ENORMOUS.

Even at almost 2 (sob) and 26 pounds and counting, I still wear Chuck all the time, and have since she was fresh out of the womb. It always calmed her to be close, and I’ve done a lot of cooking, shopping, walking, vacuuming and myriad other things with Chuck strapped to my body.

Studies have shown that babywearing reduces infant crying, promotes attachment to the parent, helps with the momma’s PPD, and helps with emotional physical and mental development of babies. Plus, it’s easier to nurse discreetly with your babe in a carrier, it leaves your hands free to do whatever else you need to do, and it’s wicked good exercise to haul another wiggly body around while you do your daily thang.

Chuck tries to figure out the buckle on the Boba

So armed with all of this information, we used a wrap-style carrier (kind of like this one) when Chuck was little, but the origami of it all got too complicated when Chuck got too big to wear on my front.

We have been “limping” along with a wrap/buckle hybrid carrier that wasn’t horribly comfortable, but did the job and Chuck was into it. It took forever and three people to get the darned thing on, but once on, Chuck would hang out in that thing for an hour + while I putzed around the house or baked or what have you.

Then I got in contact with Boba. And they sent me one of their new 3G carriers, and I had no idea how uncomfortable the other carrier was until I slipped this bad boy on.

Chillaxin in her new Boba digs

There was no tying, no origami to figure out, not as much “gymnastics”, there was no straps cutting into my shoulders (or making my boobs bulge out…you babywearing mommas know what I mean) and no more low back pain when carrying her (which I had no idea I had until I didn’t have it anymore).

The 3G is a soft-structured carrier, and has a weight limit up to 45 pounds! (I hope that Chuck is out of this thing by kindergarten, for serious) It’s got a couple of different pockets in it (and we all know how much pockets come in handy when you’re a busy mom), a nice rain hood (or nursing cover) and my favorite part is the stirrup footstraps, which not only help support Chuck’s legs in a froggy position (which helps with proper alignment of the pelvis) but keeps her from kicking the bejeezus out of my legs.

You can even use it with your tiny tiny people (7lbs minimum) without an insert (like some of the other carriers require). It’s a taller carrier and has some handy dandy elastic ties on all of the straps, so once your kiddo is in and everything is settled accordingly, you can roll those suckers up and tuck them away.

Seriously, I bring this thing everywhere. To Boy Wonder’s soccer games, the farmers’ market, church, the park, the store, a PTA meeting….the list is endless, and I’ve only had it for 2 weeks.

Sound enticing? Well, you’re in luck. Boba Inc. is hosting a pretty rockin giveaway to celebrate the launch of the new Boba Carrier 3G and their new brand image! Enter to win a $500 travel voucher and a Boba Carrier 3G. With the new 3G it is easier than ever to enjoy Freedom Together as a family and Boba wants YOU to put it to use in a destination of your choice. To enter to win, “Like” them on Facebook (www.facebook.com/boba), follow them on Twitter (www.twitter.com/boba) and tweet about them! Also, make sure to check out Boba’s new website! – .

Quick snack

I don’t like to waste things.

Especially food.

So I came up with this idea so Chuck and Boy Wonder don’t go hungry when we are out for longer than anticipated and I can not waste food….

Trail mix. Genius, right?

But seriously, what I do is I take the last pieces of crackers or raisins or whatever non-refrigerated thing comes down the pike, and I add it to this cool container.

Then I shake it up.

My kids think it’s pretty awesome, and I’m wasting not and wanting not.

I keep it in my enormous purse and stuff cycles out (mostly) before it goes stale.

And if it goes stale? We go feed it to the ducks.

Go forth and snackify.

Kind of Lost.

One of my twitter friends (who is also an offline friend now) told me last night that I haven’t been very funny on Twitter lately.

I hadn’t realized how not-funny I have been until I read some of my latest tweets.

Or this gem:

So yeeeeeeaaaah, personal issues happening off-blog and me actually WORKING are causing me to be unfunny. And I have nothing that I CAN put on the blog right now, because I’m running off to write a paper on how imaginative play helps small kids develop big brains and then finishing a project for a client.

So in lieu of me being funny or having to post, here are some of my favorite things off of Amazon:

Adele. Adele, Adele, Adele. I cannot say enough nice things about this girl. She’s normal, except for her voice, which I find extraordinary. I adore her first CD (18) and this CD is insanely amazing as well. Good mellow yet ass-kicking music.
Hip Girl’s Guide to Homemaking. This would be the greatest gift of all for a bride or a girl moving out of her parents’ for the first time. It’s got some great tips even for me, who’s lived on her own (MOSTLY) for almost 10 years.

Back to the Future. These are my go-to movies when I’m feeling blue. I know all of the words and possibly even some of the hand gestures, I’ve seen them that many times. Yet somehow (for me at least) they never get old. Related: I love DeLoreans.
I have never read this book. But with the issues we’re having with switching Chuck to a Big Girl Bed, I’ve heard this book would help me. (Note: This is not a kids’ book. It is for adults.)

That’s all I’ve got, my darlings. Maybe later today after paper-writing and project-finishing and laundry-folding, I can get something better up :)

Thanks for sticking around.
